STEM: Natural History of Plants: Your Professors

Dr. Margaret Eiden

Margaret Eiden, Ph.D. is a Professor of Biology at Westchester Community College.  Dr. Eiden received her doctoral degree in Cell Biology and Anatomy from New York Medical College in 2000.  Her dissertation focused on the cytoskeleton which provides structure to eukaryotic cells.  Her current research interests look at the structure of ecosystems.  For the last several years she has directed a research group including students from Mercy College and Westchester Community College in the Summer STEM Research Academy.  These students have presented their findings on plant communities and their relationship to the local ecosystem at conferences throughout the New York region.

Dr. J. Holly Bukofser

Dr. Bukofser has worked as an adjunct at Westchester Community College for 11 years, teaching physical science, biology, and environmental science.   She received a DPS in Computers in Education from Pace University, an MAT in Biology Education from Manhattanville College, and a BA in Environmental Science from Purchase College, SUNY. Before coming to Westchester, she taught in secondary school and worked as an environmental consultant for the Westchester County Department of Planning.  While there, she contributed to The Watershed Advisory Committees #3 and #4 Watershed Management Plans.  Dr. Bukofser was also a member of the Board at the Federated Conservationists of Westchester and was chair of the Environmental Advisory Committee of Harrison for several years.
