Mission of the Harold L. Drimmer Library

The Harold L. Drimmer Library facilitates access to information resources and services to empower the SUNY Westchester Community College community in the pursuit, evaluation, and ethical use of knowledge. 

Vision of the Harold L. Drimmer Library

The Harold L. Drimmer Library is committed to being proactive in responding to the needs of our diverse community by providing, supporting, and enhancing integrative access to collections, scholarship, collaborative learning spaces, tools, and technology.  

The library is committed to inclusivity at all levels of patron services. We strive to empower every student through instruction and experiences that build critical thinking and information literacy skills. 

 

 

Values of the Harold L. Drimmer Library

Student Centered

  • Focusing primarily on student academic needs  
  • Providing an environment with resources that support students’ academic success 
  • By serving all students in an expert, timely and respectful manner no matter who they are or why they are here.

We show this by:

Being proactive and anticipating evolving needs  

  •     By assessing students’ needs and gathering actionable data leading to improvements with measurable impact  
  •     By offering responsive services such as liaison expertise, information literacy instruction, multi- modal resource delivery and research support 
  •     By maintaining collections, services, technology, and facilities that support all students’ needs  
  •     By collaborating with Faculty and other departments to further student success 
  •     By providing accessible, inclusive, culturally competent, and approachable assistance

Sustainability 

  •     Recognize our responsibility to be outstanding stewards of our human, environmental, physical, digital, and financial resources 
  •     Continue the stewardship of library collections and innovative technologies  

We show this by:

  •     Engaging in transparent decision-making through open dialogue and discussions, balancing current needs, resource allocation and long-term aspirations  
  •     Managing library resources in a thoughtful and sustainable manner consistent with our mission and values, and in a way that maximizes the values and resources to the WCC community

  •     Promote and provide equity of access to information, spaces and services and tools 
  •     Promoting ethical and responsible use of information  
  •     Incorporating information literacy and critical thinking across curricula, in all programs and services  
  •     Supporting innovative technologies and environments that further scholarship, research, and learning

  • Welcoming and celebrating underrepresented voices in our community  

We show this by:

Listening and responding to the needs of our user communities and Library staff  

  •     By celebrating underrepresented voices in our community through library displays, virtual collections and social media 
  •     By promoting equity of access to information by offering multi modal 24/7 access to resources and services 
  •     By fostering reflective ideas and opportunities related to diversity, equity, inclusivity, and social justice such as book talks, displays and other programming 
  •     By developing collections of materials on diversity topics 

     

Accessibility 

 Promote and provide equity of access to information, spaces and services and tools 

We show this by:

  •  Providing spaces, services, resources, and tools that facilitate interactivity and creativity for the WCC community 
  •     Providing equitable access to information, curricular materials, and research tools through subscriptions and emerging open access resources  
  •     Using innovative technologies for research and communication such as mobile-optimized interfaces, research guides, along with text, chat, and screensharing research assistance 
  •     Actively engaging and collaborating with academic disciplines and departments such as IT, Facilities and Security
