Purpose
This guide ensures all content in the SUNY AI Repository is accessible, consistent, and reusable. It supports centrally managed, standard content adaptable by any SUNY campus.
Accessibility (WCAG 2.1 Level AA)
- Use sufficient color contrast (minimum 4.5:1).
- Provide meaningful alt text for all images.
- Use semantic HTML (headings, lists, tables) for structure.
- Ensure full keyboard navigability and logical tab order.
- Never use color alone to convey information.
Formatting
- Use only Springshare LibGuides’ built-in formatting.
- Avoid inline styles, custom CSS, or HTML unless approved.
- Maintain consistency:
- Use standard headings (H2, H3)
- Bullet and numbered lists
- Basic table formatting
Embeddable Content
- Design content for reuse in other sites or LibGuides.
- Keep text concise and clear.
- Avoid external stylesheets/scripts.
Writing
- Use plain, direct language.
- Minimize jargon; define terms when needed.
Images & Multimedia
- Write accurate, descriptive alt text.
- Add captions for videos and transcripts for audio.
- Avoid unnecessary decorative images; mark as decorative if used.
Links
- Use descriptive link text (no “click here”).
- Links should open in the same window; indicate if opening in a new tab.
Review & Maintenance
- Review content regularly for accuracy and accessibility.
- Encourage and act on user feedback about accessibility.
