Scholarly articles are written by a expert(s) in an academic or professional field for other experts to advance knowledge in the field. Scholarly articles are also referred to as peer-review, meaning, the article is reviewed by peers with the field for validity, quality and often originality for publication.

 

 

Reading a Journal Article

Reading journal articles can be intimidating but it is a skill you can develop. Unlike a book, journal articles can be read using numerous techniques because  journal articles are organized in a way that facilitates a more selective reading process, i.e. skimming and/or reading sections in a different order. Watch this video for tips on how to read and comprehend a scholarly journal article.
