The purpose of the in-text citation is to direct the reader to the full citation on your Works Cited page by creating a path from:
NOTE: Every source you use MUST have both an in-text (parenthetical) citation within the body of your paper and a full citation on your Works Cited page.
When you use an author's words or ideas, you must cite, or give credit to the author's work. This is done by using abbreviated citations in the text of your paper, and a full citation at the end of your paper on a separated sheet titled "Works Cited." You must give credit when you quote an author directly or when you put the author's ideas into your own words (paraphrasing).
Below are two examples of citing journal articles.
The full citation appears first, followed by the in-text citation, which is the author's name and the page number where you found the information in the article in parentheses. Ex. (Smith 27).
