Join the library on October 5th at 10:00 a.m., in the Gateway theater for an event featuring artist, author, and adventurer Ryan Estrada. Estrada is co-author of the graphic novel The Banned Book Club, which depicts a real-life, secret student club that met to read underground literature in 1980s-era South Korea.
An award-winning and highly-prolific creator, Estrada started pitching comics to newspapers when he was six years old and has not stopped producing and publishing work since! His other books include Student Ambassador: The Missing Dragon, Occulted, and Ryan Made Mistakes, 1980-1997, Minor Issues. Ryan is also a tireless advocate for libraries, reading and freedom of speech. He offers workshops and activities for libraries and students around the world.
This not-to-be-missed event will be live streamed from Ryan's home base in South Korea and moderated by Information Literacy Librarian, Don Simmons Jr. You will hear about the about the current state of advocacy around the freedom to read and what advocates can do to help fight book current challenges and removals in schools and libraries.
