Using the Internet for Primary Research

Search Strategies

I. There are writings an documents from the colonial time period freely available in digital archives online.

When searching online for primary sources, try including a person or place name and one of these keywords in your search: memoirs, letters, archives, history, narratives, speeches, correspondence, or diaries.

II. As shown below, to narrow your Google search to academic or non-profit websites pair your search with the command site: .edu (education) or .org (organization, museum, archive).
