Welcome to the Psychology Research Guide for students in the 2025 STEM Scholars Academy!

This guide directs you to articles, databases, websites, organizations, books, and other resources to get you started. 

Research Topic

Your project will be a quantitative content analysis of the language present in modern board game rulebooks. The psychological variables that you may wish to study are open, but some possibilities are:

  • Personality traits like the Big Five:
    • extroversion,
    • agreeableness,
    • conscientiousness,
    • neuroticism, and
    • openness
  • Trait descriptors that may be seen as sex-typed (masculine/feminine)
  • Agency (what I can do and choose on my own)
  • Communion (how we are together and concern for others)
  • Self-efficacy (might overlap with agentic language above)
