Your Assignment

Your assignment is to write a four-page paper connecting an author's work to their life and times, and to show how their work reflects this. Provide historical and/or biographical material about that author and discuss how the times they lived in influenced or impacted two aspects of their work.

Choose two of the following elements and discuss how they reflect the author’s concerns, obsessions and activism.

  • character/character development

  • dialogue

  • symbolism

  • metaphor
  • simile
  • the culture they are describing

You must use at least one research article from a legitimate academic source. You may also use letters, biography, autobiography, legitimate magazine articles.

You will need to cite your sources in MLA 9 style formatting using both in-text citations and a Works Cited page.
