Welcome! This research guide was created for students in Dr. Ramsay's English 102 class. This guide is a customized resource for this assignment.

You are to write a 10-15 page essay that analyzes at least two works by the same author from your textbook during:

• the Harlem Renaissance
• World War II or
• the turn of the 19th or 20th century

Your essay should include research about the time period you selected. What were the social, political and economic conditions of the time period in which the author wrote? 

In addition, you must:

• clearly demonstrate how historical context influenced the author's work;
• draw on three or more secondary sources; and
• draw on at least one source that is a work of literary criticism (a scholarly piece about the author's work)

Your essay should include parenthetical (in-text) citations and a Works Cited page using MLA 9 style formatting.
