HCTAL 102 - Exploring Careers in Health Care - Prof. Lowry: Search Strategy - Using Keywords

Search for Career Information

*Be aware the databases will include articles not focused on the U.S. Healthcare system. Be sure to look at the abstract of the article before using information about licensing, education etc.

To find articles on career related topic, search the databases using the suggested keywords combinations. Do not type full sentences. You may need to narrow or broaden your career/job title or use other career related phrases to find the information you need.

  • careers in {insert career name here}
  • career development or mobility or advancement and {insert career name here}
  • occupations and {insert career name here}
  • wages or salary or income and {insert career name here}
  • job outlook and {insert career name here}
  • skills or qualifications or training and  {insert career name here}
  • education or certification or licensing and {insert career name here}

You may also want to search for interviews with someone in the field about what they do and the skill required

e.g. radiographer AND interview

Use the asterisk * to truncate your search terms for more results e.g., Nurs* will search Nurse, Nurses and Nursing.

Use NOT to disambiguate search terms if you have too many irrelevant results e.g.,  Nursing NOT Breastfeeding

Cite the OOH in APA format

Update occupation title, date and URL.  Use the  'Last Modified Date' at the bottom of each page in (Year, Month Day) format.
