Faculty Tool Kit: Information Literacy

Information Literacy Instruction

WCC librarians welcome the opportunity to develop information literacy instruction for our students in collaboration with the teaching faculty. Librarians can demonstrate effective strategies for locating, evaluating information, and citing resources correctly and ethically. We offer general and course-integrated instructional services to assist students and support courses.

In adherence with the primary learning outcomes of the Information Literacy Program and the American Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Framework for Information Literacy, librarians can assist students to:

  • Develop a research topic,
  • Locate information on that topic,
  • Evaluate the quality of information,
  • Synthesize sources into a research project,
  • Cite sources properly to avoid plagiarism, and
  • Format papers and bibliographies in MLA and APA formats.

Please fill out our Information Literacy Instruction Request Form to schedule an information literacy sessionFor further information, please contact Prof. Don Simmons, Jr. at don.simmonsjr@sunywcc.edu

Online Research Guides (LibGuides)

Librarians can create online, interactive Research Guides to assist students with general and course-specific research.

The Guides highlight the best sources for a topic, discipline, or research assignment and can be embedded into Blackboard for seamless access to resources and services.
