There are many ways to add metadata (data about data) into your images. Your camera or computer will add basic information, but you can add additional information about your images, such as keywords, descriptions and credit information to make them more useful to potential users. There are an assortment of metadata schemas (sets of rules) by developed by various organizations to best describe different types of print and media.
Embed metadata, including licensing info in your photographs using Photoshop using the following steps:
Open image in Photoshop* (screenshots are from an older version, but everything is the same)
Click on FILE > FILE INFO
This will open the FILE INFO box, the BASIC page (default) allows you to add general file information including a descriptive title, author (or creator) designation, keywords and copyright information.
In the BASIC fields, COPYRIGHT STATUS has limited options, UNKNOWN, COPYRIGHT or PUBLIC DOMAIN
After filling out all the applicable fields, click OK to save. NOTE: Adding data will increase the file size.
You can see the information added to your file (Using File Explorer > File > Properties > Details in WIN10).
You'll notice at the bottom there is a REMOVE PROPERTIES AND PERSONAL INFORMATION link. Depending on the computer and software, undaunted users may be able to remove information from your files.
