This paper advocates a social network approach to first-year students' experiences of coping with academic life and suggests an agenda for further investigation, which would contrast support 'from above' and support 'from below'.
This paper provides methods of incorporating critical thinking through reading and learning into the FYE course curriculum through a common reading lesson plan and a sample lesson plan that teaches the four vectors of critical thinking through reading and learning. Student responses to the lessons indicate usefulness for college success.
