Prof. Maroney - English 101 - Fall 2023: Finding Articles

Library Website

You have now broken down your assignment into steps and have chosen a topic. You’re doing great so far. Now it’s time to start looking for sources!

There are many ways to find sources using WCC’s library website: https://library.sunywcc.edu/homepage

Bookmark that page because you will be using it many, many times during your academic career here.

Recommended Databases

Quick Search

When you perform a quick search, you are initially searching to see what books, eBooks, journal articles, newspaper articles, videos, etc. that WCC has and what other institutions have as well.

Keep Track of Your Sources

Keeping track of the articles you are using is very important for creating your in text citations and works cited page! There are different methods of doing so depending on if you are using quick search, or searching within the databases.

Quick Search Vs. Database Searching

Notice how the number of results is significantly different than using quick search. So much less overwhelming, right? Personally, I would use quick search only when you know the title of a specific article, or book you are trying to find. When doing research knowing you need numerous articles, I feel searching within databases is the best way to go.
