What's In This Guide?

This guide will help you find resources for your Annotated Bibliography and Final Paper assignments, including books, ebooks, articles from library databases, videos and websites. Use the Tabs above for the following:

  • Find books & ebooks by searching the Westchester Community College Library and beyond. 
  • Find articles from academic journals, magazines and newspapers by searching the library databases. 
  • Watch films and videos in the Westchester Community College Library and stream for free online.
  • Find websites with criticism and analysis that support your claims or provide data and statistics useful to illustrating your points.
  • Learn how to evaluate and cite your sources in MLA Style. 

Research Assignments

Annotated Bibliography 

Part of writing a successful research paper is finding the correct sources. The Annotated Bibliography will help you determine if the sources you have discovered are appropriate and adequate to help you prove your thesis.

To create your own Annotated Bibliography:

  • Follow the guidelines set in the "What is the Annotated Bibliography" section
  • Follow the formatting of the three Sample Annotated Bibliographies
  • Type and double space you work using 12” Times New Roman Font only.
  • Submit on Blackboard for grading as a Word Doc or Docx only.

To submit:

  • Click on the title of this assignment above.
  • Attach your file (do not past in the text box)
  • Select the Check Assignment for Plagiarism box (If you do not check this box, you assignment will not be graded)
  • Hit the submit button.

You cannot continue with your research paper if you did not submit a proper Annotated Bibliography. (Minimum of 5 sources, 4+ pages)

TIPS: 

  • Try to become an expert on this topic by finding different voices and opinions. 
  • These sources may come from different disciplines and be delivered in different formats and platforms. 
  • Resources can include scholarly journals, books, documentary filme, or substantive articles by experts or critics in newspapers and magazines. 

Final Essay

The Research Essay is the culmination of your work. It is the standard method of college writing. 

To create your own Research Paper:

  • Follow the guidelines set in the "What is the Paper" section
  • Follow the formatting of the three Sample Research Papers
  • Type and double space you work using 12” Times New Roman Font only.
  • Submit on Blackboard for grading as a Word Doc or Docx only.

To submit:

  • Click on the title of this assignment above.
  • Attach your file (do not past in the text box)
  • Select the Check Assignment for Plagiarism box (If you do not check this box, you assignment will not be graded)
  • Hit the submit button.

Finalized Research Papers MUST be submitted by the due date. As this marks your final exam, late submission will not and cannot be accepted. (8 pages)
