This guide will support your academic search for your research essay, discovering reliable and credible sources.

However, before you start your search, it is important to read your assignment and understand the requirements you have to fulfill. Below is the rubric of your research essay, and I highlighted key components to your assignment.

A research paper is a requirement for the “INTRODUCTION TO CORRECTIONS” course and must conform to the following guidelines:

  1. Length - 10 typewritten pages (double-spaced).

  1. Format - introduce the topic or define the problem/issue, provide background information or contrasting views that fully explores your topic, and discuss its impact on the corrections system.

3.  Topics - select one of the following topics for your research paper:

  • PRISON BOOT CAMPS
  • ELECTRONIC HOME MONITORING
  • WOMEN IN PRISON
  • PRE-TRIAL JAIL FACILITIES
  • PROBATION AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO INCARCERATION
  • SUPER-MAX PRISONS
  • PAROLE BOARD DECISION-MAKING
  • COURT INTERVENTION IN CORRECTIONS

  1. References - sources of information and/or direct quotations must be used 

within the text of the research paper in the form of a parenthetical citation.

  1. Bibliography - a listing of reference works that are cited or consulted must be listed at the end of the research paper, according to guidelines in the

MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers (9th Edition: 2021).

  1. Deadline - the research paper is due no later than TUES. APRIL 12, 2022 - when class presentations will be made.
