Open Access Resources
The familiar Google interface applied to scholarly searching. The results on Google scholar can be a bit of a mixed bag, and not all the articles retrieved will be open access (i.e. there may be a fee to see the full text). Before you give up on an article or drop cash to see it, though, see information on how you can add a "library link" in Google Scholar to check whether an item is available among WCC's subscription resources.

A one stop shop for users to Open Access Journals," the DOAJ facilitates browsing and searching of free, peer-reviewed journals available online. You may have to wade through a fair bit of scientific and technical publications, but there are some relevant journals indexed here.
Americana: The Journal of American Popular Culture
Free journal on American popular culture in general, with a few interesting articles on monsters in film and elsewhere. There's no easy search provided on the website, but you can search on Google using site:www.americanpopularculture.com/journal/ as part of your search phrase (Here's an example search for "zombie").
