Your Assignment

You are required to write a persuasive research paper about a topic of your choice.

persuasive essay is a paper that convinces the reader to agree with your point of view -- presenting scholarly information and argumentative points that can prove your view is legitimate and valid.  Use clear arguments and support them by convincing facts and logical reasons.  

5-page essay including at least four (4) outside sources (credible evidence), and a Work Cited page in MLA 8th format. 

October 5: Selecting a topic and submission of your research question. This must be a debatable issue.

October 11: Information Literacy Session -- Prof. Don Simmons -- will explain the WCC database and other important links that will help you successfully complete your research project. Do not miss this class.

October 15: Submission of formal research proposal (Step 1) (Talk it Out activity done in class on that date)

October 19: Summary of two sources found on the library database; these sources must be from a periodical, a journal, or a credible website. (Small group discussion also done on that date.)

October 29: Annotated Bibliography due (Step 2) using four academically appropriate sources to be used in your paper, MLA 8th ed. format.

November 9: Preliminary draft of essay needed for student peer review session.

November 16: First draft submitted.

December 3: Submit final copy of Research paper with proper MLA Works Cited page through Safe Assign (Step 3)

December 9: Reflective Essay on writing your research paper.

December 14/21: Oral presentations 3-5 minutes Don’t Procrastinate! While this project is going on during and outside of the class, you will be required to read and respond to essays, view videos, and participate in other class activities. Writing Tutorial/Library assistance available.
